Fluosilicic acid

Product Details
Also known as silofluoric acid. Anhydrous matter is a colorless gas. It's not stable. Easily decomposed into silicon tetrafluoride and hydrogen fluoride. The aqueous solution is colorless and strongly acidic. It's corrosive. It eats into glass. Store in wax or plastic containers. When the concentrated solution is cooled, the crystal of colorless dihydrate is precipitated, and the melting point is 19℃. Fluorosilicic acid has disinfection properties. It is used for producing fluorosilicate and cryolite, and for electroplating, beer disinfection, wood preservation and so on. It is prepared by heating silica dissolved in hydrofluoric acid or mixed with quartz powder, calcium fluoride and concentrated sulfuric acid. It can also be obtained by water absorption of silicon tetrafluoride gas that escapes during the decomposition of phosphate rock in phosphate fertilizer plants.
